New ENV 490 Sustainability Innovation class stimulates paradigm shift

On March 13, app developer Brian Dote shared with our students the basics, essentials, challenges, and successes of conceptualizing and building an app.

The students had the opportunity to present their app prototypes to app developer Brian Dote, Dr. Gail Grabowsky, Ph.D., and Sustainable Analyst Connor Flynn, who provided professional and valuable feedback and insights on the iterations and improvements for their apps.

As the topic is becoming a fast-paced part of our lives, we are committed to keeping our students learning about this powerful tool and how they can use it in an ethical and positive manner.

After winning a two-year $600,000 Minority Colleges and Universities Grant Competition from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), a hui of Chaminade professors developed the ‘Inana Sustainability Entrepreneurship Program, which aims to spark minority entrepreneurial innovation among Hawaii-Pacific undergraduates.

Today, the students met Zoe Zhang, the incredible owner of Plantoem. Plantoem is a cozy, speakeasy plant shop and café space in the middle of Kaimuki.

Reuse Hawaii is on a mission to turn construction and demolition waste into affordable community resources.

We are very proud of the nine incredible students who worked for 10 weeks this summer on their sustainable innovations and projects.

One skill that most of us can improve is our ability to speak in public, to share our ideas in a concise, creative, and engaging way.
