The ENV490 Sustainability Entrepreneurship I course welcomes students from all majors and career aspirations. It’s not just for those pursuing environmental studies or dreaming of launching a business or startup. At the heart of the course lies the ethos of the ‘Īnana Innovators Program, which aims to inspire sustainability while embracing the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 4th Cohort of App Creators has made significant progress on their projects focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This semester, they shared their challenges, solutions, and next steps.

Last week, we wrapped up the UN Sustainability Entrepreneurship Short Course, but for our participants, this is just the beginning! 🌱 We created this course to amplify the voices of those who deeply understand their community’s challenges and solutions rooted in culture. Thank you to our amazing students, mentors, and supporters! Your feedback and dedication have been key to improving this course for future communities. We can’t wait to see the impact these innovators will make!

It was a privilege for me to take this course, as I not only had the opportunity to learn about sustainability but also to work with other students to promote it. Understanding the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals and global efforts to achieve them built my confidence to do my part in tackling them during my future career. 

Last week, we launched the United Nations Sustainability Entrepreneurship Short Course! Our goal with this course is to create a nurturing space and provide tools for those eager to use their passion, dreams, and knowledge to impact their communities with their ingenuity.

This week, our ENV 490 Sustainability Innovation I class had the privilege of hosting Kelly King, Vice President of Pacific Biodiesel, who shared the incredible journey of her business.

Our final project for ENV 490 I involved working closely with a local small business to develop a business design aligned with their sustainability goals. While I wrote this poem with the perspective of Native Hawaiians in mind, I also want everyone to recognize how my poem can apply to all of us here. I think we all have happier times that we want to go back to, we now feel nostalgia for. But in the present, we’re all struggling with our own problems.  But, no matter how hard it is now, we can overcome our struggles. We can look forward to the future, even perhaps build a better future ourselves. 

If you're a bit puzzled asking yourself, "Where is Kwajalein Atoll?” you're not alone. This unique place in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is unfortunately not well known by most people (including myself up until a few months ago), but there are many reasons why we should learn about and care for Kwajalein Atoll.

This past week, I had the privilege of spending time with a group of incredible Pacific Islander leaders in Fiji at the East-West Center Program Fellowship Alumni Engagement Workshop.

Our 'Īnana Innovators Program had the privilege of hosting 30 fifth graders to share information about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and engage them in an exercise that dared them to dream about how they could use their superpowers to achieve one of the SDGs. The results were awe-inspiring!

This course was student-led, and for this reason, it was dynamic, organic, and rooted in their interests and commitment.

We are thankful to the team at SBA and proud of our students for putting themselves in front of the SBA consultants to present their final work. Great job, team!
